Kamada Ekadasi

April 8

Kamada Ekadshi is a day of fasting, as well as a day of spiritual and religious significance. For Vaishnavas, it is an opportunity to reflect upon the underlying principles of their Bhakti/ Devotional service.

Vaishnavas celebrate this day with much reverence as it’s believed that on this day Lord Vishnu transformed Himself into a Viraat Avatar, offering divine grace and protection to his devotees. The month in which Kamada Ekadasi is observed is referred to as Aadi Masam, or “mother of all months” in the Vaishnav culture. It is well-known as the month of beginning of all fruitful tasks and observances.

Any Charity ( Daan), Tapa ( penance), or Yoga( Austerity) done of the day of Ekadasi is considered to bestow eternal fruits.

This is one of the most important Ekadasis of the Hindu Lunar Calendar. A fast observed on this day is also said to be equivalent to four other Ekadasi fasts.
