Varuthini Ekadasi

April 24

Varuthini Ekadasi is celebrated according to the Vedic calendar and is observed on the Ekadasi tithi (11th day) of the Krishna Paksha (waning phase of the moon) in the month of Vaishakha.

Varuthini Ekadasi is observed in honor of Lord Vamana, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The story behind Varuthini Ekadasi is found in the Varaha Purana. According to the legend, there was a king named Mandhata who ruled over his kingdom with righteousness and devotion. However, due to a curse from a sage, the king and his kingdom faced many difficulties and misfortunes.

In order to seek redemption and guidance, King Mandhata consulted his royal priest, Vasishta Muni. The sage advised the king to observe Varuthini Ekadasi with utmost devotion and sincerity. Following the sage’s instructions, King Mandhata observed the fast and performed all the prescribed rituals on Varuthini Ekadasi.

As a result of his sincere observance of Varuthini Ekadasi, King Mandhata was able to overcome all his troubles and regain prosperity in his kingdom. This story highlights the significance of observing Ekadasi vrata with devotion and faith to seek the blessings of the Lord and overcome obstacles in life.
